The History of the English Language
How Did the English Language Begin?
English is considered a member of the Indo-Eurpoean family of idioms. Other languages that are in this family are :French, Italian, German, Norwegian and Greek. English actually dates from about the fifth century. In those times, invaders from across the north sea, conquered the native Celts, and settled on the island now known as Great Britain.
The history of English language is divided into three perios:
*Anglo-Saxon (400-1100 A.D.),
*Middle English (1100-1500 A.D) and
*Modern English (1500 A.D.- present).
The original language spoken in English was Celtic. The Norseman invaded England and they introduced a Scandinavian element into the language and this way German language became a part of English.
After that “Norman” language influenced, a language quite different from Anglo-Saxon developed and became the “Modern English”.
(How Did the English Language Begin?)
It is said that the English language is the most complex language in the entire world. This language its all dated back to the fifth century by people, called “Germanic tribes” who arrived to Britain. The language continued till after the eleventh century, thus introducing the Latin language also , with the Vikings arrival.
Old English was a reflection from the Anglo-Norman-French, after eleven hundred’s. Now days, some old English still being spoken. Old English its difficult and hard to understand/read, and now we have progressed it through the years.
Middle English derived somewhere from the twelfth and fiftheenth centuries. With this dialects on vowels and grammar changed along with the spelling of the words. There are words that have disappeared, because they have no meanings.
Modern English, was the next agenda and what we most enjoy using now. With new technologies helping us with English, we have now archived that almost every country speak English.
English still a difficult language to be learned. It depends on the place you live on, your culture, and mostly accents make it hard to be accomplished. For example, The British have their own pronunciation, and they speak “perfect” English, as for United States, is said that they speak “poor” English, because of variations of the language, and new words that are being made throughout the years. Here in Mexico, The north speak English different aside the south, because the north is closest from United States, and the south is not, so they only speak what they learn at school or personal schools that teach English.
English has come along way from Britain, and through the centuries to come, it will continue to change. There will be a day that every country in the world, would speak English as its first language. That day its close. We can only wait for that day, and then, the entire world would be available to communicate with each other. English will keep on chaiging throughout the years, so the best thing we can do, its Adapt to it.
